Assistant Cropping Manager

We are currently looking for a motivated and passionate Assistant Cropping Manager to join our team. The Assistant Cropping Manager will primarily be responsible for working on the ground with our harvesting and cropping teams, ensuring efficient and timely crop operations. This role offers an exciting opportunity to play a key role in our crop management processes and contribute to the success of our farming operations.

This role is responsible for:

  • Operating and maintaining cropping and harvesting machinery
  • Assisting with overseeing crop and harvest planning
  • Conducting regular crop inspections with Outdoor Cropping Manager
  • Assisting with overseeing staff personnel
  • Assisting with soil tests and obtaining advice on fertilizers and nutrients
  • Assisting with purchasing of fertilizer, seed and chemical
  • Maintaining the chemical safety data sheets, register and Worksafe inventory
  • Conducting chemical trials
  • Assisting with planning and organizing irrigation
  • Coordinating all reporting and stock takes
  • Continuously looking to improve through new methods, efficiencies and product quality
  • Ensuring top quality outdoor crops are produced consistently and cost effectively
  • Ensuring site compliance is met at all times

About you:

  • Farming or large horticultural machinery experience
  • A proven record of staff management and leadership
  • Previous crop planning or management experience advantageous
  • Previous farm program experience (Apunga experience advantageous)
  • Growsafe and certified handler certificates (or the willingness to gain certification)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Sound knowledge of NZGap and MPI regulations advantageous
  • Sound knowledge of modern equipment including GPS advantageous
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel
  • Good organizational, delegation and planning skills
  • Flexibility to work varied days/hours including some weekends
